Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic movie ‘Yellow Submarine’ Stella McCartney’s latest collection ‘All Together Now’ combines the vivacious nature and colourful aesthetic of the film alongside signature Stella McCartney design techniques. Introducing a vibrant colour palette to the collection, vivid patterns and posterised graphics merge to replicate the psychedelic visuals of the film in the form of knitwear, outerwear and classic capsule pieces.

Running across menswear, womenswear and kidswear the collection captures important messages of peace, love and togetherness a notion that is prominent throughout the movie. Mirroring the colourful world of music and love presented in the movie, vibrant patterns and bold colours symbolise the importance of togetherness through each individual piece within the collection, bringing the message of unanimity to a new generation.

Garments featuring scenes, motifs and graphics from the film, transform the wearer into a symbol of unity highlighting the significance of this concept to a contemporary audience 50 years later, a message as importancein today’s political climate as it was during the films original release. Inspired by her personal connection to the movie, the drive to spread this statement to a new generation built the collection and awareness that a modern audience could be encouraged to become an agent for change.

Discussing the inspiration behind the collection, Stella McCartney stated “I recently went to a screening with family and friends for the digital relaunch of ‘Yellow Submarine’. I hadn’t seen it since I was young, and honestly it blew my mind.  It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting. Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together—politically this message has never been more relevant. So, I came out and I was like ‘I have to do something.'”

Reimagining the ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ scene, the womenswear portion of the collection introduces a flowing, feminine silhouette detailed by a delicate washed finish and painterly, patchworked dancer jacquard, a piece that perfectly demonstrates the transition of the film from past to present, adapted for a modern audience, with a design refined for the contemporary wearer.

Also included in the womenswear collection an intense Fur-Free-Fur jacquard coat, a staple piece in the capsule collection, features an array of contrasting energetic shades accompanied by a detailed graphic displaying The Beatles in their iconic marching band uniforms.

Hints of the legendary The Beatles band uniforms are also incorporated within menswear pieces of the collection, with the combination of bold stripes across Savile Row tailoring featuring on trousers and jackets giving a subtle depiction of the marching band uniforms that inspired the design.

Outerwear pieces also mirror the cartoon nature of the movie from which they were inspired. Detailing’s of bold patches, slogans and pop art portraits of The Beatles feature on a full-length black coat, offering a strong visual representation of the movie and a dynamic celebratory statement of the concept behind the collection.

Reimagined graphics also featuring across the Knitwear pieces of the collection, pop art style graphics are woven into jumpers delivering a soft retro vibe, reflecting the movie and era from which it was first created.

Kidswear provides a more playful take on the concept, with electrifying Beatles graphics, vivid colours and yellow submarine motifs throughout, the same yellow submarine motifs also feature alongside limited-edition monograms on the Alter-Nappa Eclypse and Falabella.

Throughout the collection the same message is apparent, mens, womens and kidswear jersey and knitwear pieces are embroidered with ‘All Together Now’ slogans presented in multiple languages, a fitting link to the concept behind the collection and a direct link to a powerful scene from the film.Outerwear and shirting pieces also display statement “all you need is love” and “love love love” motifs. These subtle yet powerful phrases, provide a gentle, delicate design that is carried through each section of the collection, forming a powerful link between all ages, genders and generations through the concept of love, ultimately forming the message of unity that Stella McCartney set out to create through this collection.

This link acts as an important asset to the collection, commenting on this connection and aesthetic, McCartney stated “The colours and the psychedelia and the patterns and the prints! It translated effortlessly into the ready-to-wear. It’s an emotional and authentic collection and it really crosses over.”

In keeping with the brands commitment to sustainability, these values are reflected across each piece of the collection, with the concept and message behind the collection encouraging a collective effort to save the planet.
